The protocol determines the authorized parties represented by defense departments of the both countries and the procedure for mutual notification about port calls of naval ships. The document also regulates stay of ships and their crews in ports of the two countries.
The authorized parties, for instance, undertake to timely exchange information of mutual interest regarding execution of the protocol. During the stay at a port of the host state, naval ships of the visiting country shall not have on board weapons of mass destruction, nuclear fuel, biological weapons, radioactive and narcotic agents.
The intergovernmental protocol extends for five years and will be automatically renewed for 5-year periods until one of the parties notifies another party on its intention to terminate the agreement.
