Russian Navy Was Offered Rotary-Wing Recon Drone

At the Army-2018 forum, Scientific & Production Association "Aviation Systems" presented a helicopter-type UAV. Type TARK-7002 tactical air reconnaissance system is being developed for the Russian Navy’s needs.

TARK-7002 is capable to perform reconnaissance and provide target acquisition for naval forces. Its optoelectronic system is equipped with a set of sensors, including IR and video cameras. Takeoff weight of the drone is 850 kg, payload is up to 195 kg, max speed is 220 kph, cruise speed is 184 kph.


According to designers, developing of a drone for the navy is more complex than for other branches. "An aggressive effect of sea environment on all components should be taken into account", Maksim Orekhov, lead expert at SPA "Aviation Systems" told Mil.Press Today.

TARK-7002 is covered by corrosion-resistant coating and equipped with folded blades.

At the Army-2018 forum, the company presents a testbed trials sample. Flight tests will begin when all systems prove their serviceability on the ground.


Although TARK was a proactive project, the company hopes the Navy would finally order it, added Maksim Orekhov. However, the designers admit that the military normally sign the contracts in case of fully completed solutions. "That‘s the position of the defense ministry: they don’t want to take risk today, these are market rules. Nonetheless, we’re in touch with the Navy officials and sure the drone will be of use", summed up the expert.

The company spokesmen emphasized they are to complete the project anyway and offer it to wide range of customers.

The Army-2018 International Military & Technical Forum is held in August 21-26 at the Patriot Congress & Expo Center, Alabino Range, and Kubinka Airbase near Moscow. As for the Russian Defense Ministry, the event is attended by 1,500+ companies that present over 20,000 products.
