Media: Russian Air Force to Have At Least 700 Fighter Jets by 2025

In the future, amount of fighter aircraft in the Russian Airspace Force will be at least 700 jets within combatant regiments without taking into account mothballed airplanes.

Sukhoi fighters made by Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Irkutsk aircraft factories will form the core of the fleet, reported Lenta.Ru on December 15 referring to an insider in the military.

"This objective is attainable by 2025. Fighters will make about 40% of the Air Force’s aggregate strength, the rest will be attack aircraft and bombers, as well as reconnaissance, transport, training and special-purpose airplanes", explained the interviewee.

According to him, about 450 of jets are Sukhoi fighters. "Su-30, Su-35, some upgraded Su-27 will continue service. Besides, the fifth-generation aircraft will be commissioned in the combatant units. The rest are modernized MiG-29, MiG-31 and new MiG-35", said the expert.

Open sources report that Russia is currently operating about 500 fighters of different types.
