USC to Keep on Building Admiral Grigorovich-Class Frigates for Russian Navy
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) will build three more Project 11356 frigates for the Russian Navy, the USC director Alexey Rakhmanov told Mil.Today at the International Maritime Defense Show.
According to the USC head, the ships are to be equipped with gas turbine engines made by NPO Saturn (Rybinsk, Russia).
Project 11356 ships are intended for long-range sea missions, engagement of surface ships and submarines, as well as suppression of air attacks.
Two frigates, Admiral Grigorovich and Admiral Essen, have already joined the navy, while Admiral Makarov is completing state trials.
Construction of the next trio was suspended because Ukrainian government banned sales of locally produced gas turbine engines to Russia. Two already laid down frigates, Admiral Butakov and Admiral Istomin, will be completed for the Indian Navy.
