Russia to Apply Sevmash Shipyard’s Anti-Fire Policy in National Standard

Numerous fires at Russian shipyards have resulted in preparation of the national firefighting standard for defense companies on the basis of experience acquired by Sevmash, reported Mil.Press Today referring to Aleksey Rakhmanov, the president of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.

Interior premises of frigate Neustrashimy were on fire for two hours on February 14, 2018 at Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad. Being repaired, ASW ship Marshall Shaposhnikov went into flames on February 16 in Vladivostok shipyard Dalzavod. On May 11, a welder died in the fire onboard survey ship Romuald Muklevich in Kronshtadt shipyard, and on November 27, the fire happened to the incomplete icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin.

All four cases occurred due to the human factor, an ex-official of one of the St. Petersburg shipbuilding facilities told Mil.Press Today.

Managers of Sevmash follow the fire safety policy that provides for implementation and operation of up-to-date fire prevention and fire fighting systems, mitigation of ignition risks, systematic and target-oriented safety training of personnel.
