"Over the past five years, our machine tool industry has grown both quantitatively and qualitatively: if in 2021 the industry was represented by only 40 enterprises, now there are four times as many. The share of the domestic market has also increased substantially – to the current 33%, largely thanks to the programme of renewing and expanding capacities in the defence industry," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Alikhanov, Russia already produces the most in-demand five-axis machining centers for the needs of various industries, and domestic manufacturers are mastering more and more new types of equipment.
"We need to think about promising technologies. These include high-speed machining, work with composite materials, and any forms of automated lines based on machine tools. And we will consistently move towards multi-purpose machining centers and towards flexible solutions with maximum integration of pallet systems and collaborative robots," said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The minister noted that Russia has built a system of support for the machine tool industry at all stages of the product life cycle. In particular, under a new subsidy to customers for financing R&D on the development of specialized equipment, since 2025, 12 projects worth almost 10 billion rubles have been supported. For organizing production, loans and credits at preferential rates are provided, and at the sales stage, discount subsidies are in effect. This measure has been used by 25 machine tool enterprises for a total amount of over 1.8 billion rubles, which made it possible to sell products worth 5.8 billion rubles.
Russian machine tools take a third of the domestic market
The number of Russian machine tool enterprises has grown fourfold over the past five years, and they now account for a third of the domestic market. This was announced by the head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov, at the "Customer Day" forum.
