At the International Maritime Defense Show 2021, Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau (Saint Petersburg, Russia) unveiled details about Piranha-class submarine Serval. The project is developed proactively for further exports. Designers name air-independent powerplant (AIPP) based on gas turbine generator as the sub’s key feature. When moving underwater, such AIPP operates in close-cycle mode using liquid oxygen reserves. Serval is intended for sabotage actions. The submarine is equipped with the airlock chamber for combat divers, and a Triton-class midget sub.

The information about the new submarines developed by Malakhit was published in the company’s Annual Report 2020. The bureau has formed design of a nuclear-powered sub Gorgona and an air-independent sub Serval.

The 10th International Maritime Defense Show took place in June 23-27 at Expoforum Congress & Exhibition Hall in St. Petersburg. Over 20 events, including 4 scientific conferences, were held under the business program of the exhibition.
